Vashisht is a small, beautiful village located around 3 kms from Manali. A narrow road that cuts off the Manali-Atal Tunnel highway takes you to the village.
The village is named after sage Vashishth, who is said to have meditated here.
Vashisht is famous for its three temples and the hot water springs.
The wood and stone Vashisht temple is dedicated to sage Vashishth. Locals worship sage Vashishth as a deity here. This temple is a place of pilgrimage for not only the people of the valley but also local deities, who come here once a year.
Right next to the Vashisht temple is the Lord Shiva temple. This temple was constructed quite recently in 2003. Behind the Shiva temple is the stone temple of Lord Rama. This temple is one of the few stone temples of the Kullu valley.
Vashisht is also famous for its hot water springs, which are believed to be medicinal and said to cure skin diseases.
If you are in Vashisht then you must not miss visiting the nearby Jogini waterfall. An easy trek of around two and half kilometres takes you to the waterfall. The trek offers nice views of the Beas valley and the Manali town as you pass by apple orchards and a beautiful forest.
And the waterfall is truly stunning.
There is also a small stone temple under a walnut tree here.
Vashisht is a good place to visit but just watch out for the traffic jams and parking problems. The road from highway till here is too narrow and often leads to traffic jams especially during the peak tourist season in summers. There is also not enough parking space available in Vashisht.
An d Like other hill stations, littering is a major issue in Vashisht. You will come across tens of signboards here warning against littering. So, if you are in Vashisht, don’t litter. For that matter, don’t litter anywhere.
