Tucked away on the third floor of a parking garage near Lake and Wells are about a dozen self-driving vehicles.
Waymo announced its fleet is mapping Chicago streets, a critical first step toward bringing the self-driving cars to the city.
If you plan to be out and about downtown this week, however, don't expect to see a car with an empty driver's seat just yet. Even though the cars are fully capable of driving themselves, every one of them will have a person behind the wheel.
