The Global Environment Facility has been working in the Latin America and Caribbean region for almost 30 years to protect and conserve biodiversity. Over $5 billion has been invested in the region, resulting in integrated programming and significant impact. Programs such as the Amazon Region Protected Areas program and the Amazon Sustainable Landscapes Integrated Program work with Indigenous Peoples and local communities to protect resources through sustainable management. The Beyond 30x30 program in the Eastern Tropical Pacific creates corridors to link protected areas and ensure safe passage for endangered species. In the Andes, the GEF focuses on altitudinal conservation and securing important biomes. In the Caribbean, the GEF invests in protecting unique ecosystems and endangered species, as well as supporting the transition to renewable energy systems. Conservation Trust Funds provide steady support for conservation efforts. Working with the GEF allows countries to break down silos, build alliances, and turn bold ideas into reality.
