Finding the Balance Between Speed, Reliability, and Performance ⚡️
Started the day testing the TFL 3814 aluminium prop, part of the batch I recently received from TFL. I’ve got a few different props to try, but I’ve had my eye on the 3814 as the one most likely to deliver the best all-round performance with my current setup.
As I’ve often said — and will continue to —
“It’s not the fastest boat that wins the race… it’s the one that crosses the finish line first!”
When running the PRATHER 230 (which was all I had to begin with), I felt I was just on the edge of acceptable performance. Temps were peaking at the upper recommended limit, and that’s a fine line I’d rather not live on. My aim is to establish a setup that has some tolerance for error and changing conditions — something durable, reliable, and race-ready, not just blisteringly fast.
Next up, I’ll be running the TFL 4014 to compare temperature and performance data — should be an interesting comparison! Currently, I’m using a 2550KV motor, which has been performing really well, but I’ve also ordered a 3180KV to test how the higher KV paired with the right prop affects temps, power flow, and runtime.
The end goal with this P-Limited Class development is simple — to create a reliable, well-performing, and affordable setup that makes this class more accessible and sustainable for everyone. If we can deliver great performance and durability at a reasonable cost, that’s already a big win — even before crossing the finish line!
