New legislation set a hard deadline: solar and wind projects must either "begin construction" by July 4, 2026, or face stricter "placed-in-service" requirements (Dec 31, 2027) to be eligible for Solar Investment Tax Credits. Projects that begin construction before the July 4 deadline will have an additional 4 years to reach completion.

Direct-Pay cash rebates of 30-50% of project costs for renewable energy are still available for Tax Exempt entities (501c3 nonprofits, Schools, Churches, Tribal Nations, Etc.), but are also coming to an end.
With the deadline less than six months away, "business as usual" is no longer an option. Developing a strategy now is the only way to preserve your flexible 4-year completion window.
