The moor frog is a terrestrial amphibian species most of the year. However, in early spring the frogs gather in small forest ponds or lakes to mate. At this time the males turn incredibly blue for a couple of days if the weather is right. The eggs are laid directly in the water and fertilized by the males. This scene is accompanied by croaking sounds produced by the males through their vocal sacs. Once the reproduction process is done, the frogs return back to the forest, leaving the eggs to their fate.
