Suspect opens fire on Akron police officers during traffic stop

Описание: An investigation is underway after an unknown person allegedly opened fire on two Akron police officers during a traffic stop early Tuesday morning.

According to Akron police, the incident happened around 3:50 a.m. when officers stopped a silver Ford F-150 XLT at Vernon Odom Boulevard and Tyler Street for a traffic violation.

According to officials, when officers exited their patrol car, the unknown driver of the truck fired a shot. Officials say one officer returned fire, but the suspect fled the scene. Neither officer was injured in the incident.

At this time, investigators are reviewing body camera footage, surveillance footage and other evidence to locate the suspect. The suspect remains at large.

In addition, a statewide alert has been issued for the suspect and the vehicle. The vehicle with an Ohio license plate PND-1016 is believed to have gotten on I-77 North following the incident.
