Kreutzer Etude 34 is a finger dexterity/independence exercise. It involves holding down a note with one finger while alternating double stops with the other fingers. This is actually a pretty common pattern in string instrument etudes. It is really good practice but the most important thing here is to be completely relaxed - practicing with any tension or squeezing of the left hand will be counterproductive and potentially dangerous. So if you sense any tension in your hand, you should stop, relax, and slow down to figure out the most appropriate hand position for the measure you're working on. I'll say it again... practicing this etude with tension in your left hand is counterproductive! You'll certainly be developing bad habits, and at worst you can injure yourself. You have to be focused, check in with your body every few measures, and don't overdo the practice time per day.
