In this video, we are explaining the advantages of using a locating company to expose your underground services over just anyone that has an NDD truck.
These days any monkey can go out an buy a hydro excavator and then start proving services for the councils and builders and the like. But, how do they know what pipe it is they have just exposed?
In this video we give the example of three, 100mm PVC white pipes that we have just exposed.
If it wasn't for the fact that we had located these prior to digging down then there would be no way to know which was which.
And of course add to that, the other advantage of locating first is that you can choose where to dig you potholes. We picked this area, as we knew we would get all three pipes in the same hole, which saved us time in the long run, over digging three separate holes.
If you have any questions or you disagree with us, then we would love to hear from you, feel free to leave your comments in the section below.
Thanks

Our manager Ben Minutoli was the first in Victoria to obtain his Dial Before You Dig certification and, to date, we’re still the only company in Victoria to have multiple technicians within the company who are DBYD certified (if you don't know, that’s the highest level of certification for a locator in Australia).
Actually, if you don't know about the Dial Before You Dig certification you can find out more about it here, at a blog post Ben wrote when it first came out: https://geelongcablelocations.com.au/...
And you can also read more about it on another blog post he wrote 12 months after it was started, as well as some tips on how to know which locator to pick to come out to your site: https://geelongcablelocations.com.au/...

Hey guys. Ben here. Geelong Cable Locations.
Doing another job today. Doing some service proving. Finally a nice day of the year. First nice day of the year we've had.
I just want to show you a quick job we're doing at the moment. There's a lot of guys at the moment out with hydro trucks doing hydro excavation and proving services. Which is good. It's good that they're digging safely. When it comes to working for other clients and proving, locating what you're proving the reason why you need to use a locator to do the proving is so that you know what you're actually exposing.
So, that probably doesn't make sense but let me show you. I want to show you an example. Come and have a look at this. So, in here we've got white conduit there. A white conduit there. And can you see down the bottom? Just down there. Oops. Is another one. So there's three white conduits in here. Now, let's see how smart you guys are. Tell me which one is the Telstra. Which one is the water. Can you see? Let's have a closer look.
Let's have a look at this one. And that one down there. Looking at this, I don't know, maybe you're more intelligent than me but I don't reckon there's any way of telling which one of these 100mm conduits is a water main and which one of these 100mm conduits is a telephone cable. So that is why I say you should have a locator come out and expose them for you because what I've done I've actually located where these are first and so I know. So I've gone down hooked onto the telephone pit located the telephone and that's why I know where the telephone is. That's why I know where the other telephone is. So to let you know just do a tell you the answer. That one there is the water main. That one there is the telephone going across the road and that one down the bottom is
the optic fibre. That's got the NBN in it. And the only reason that I know that is I've been able to locate where they are first. I've located where they are and that's ....
