Hi people!
Staying in the same year — 1956 — we go to the other side of the world, to Uppsala, Sweden, where a young twenty-year-old Latvian, Mikhail Tal, was making his international chess debut.
He was playing for the USSR in a match against Europe and America. Tal was placed on board three, and he impressed everyone by scoring six out of a possible seven points — plus five, with no losses and two draws. His performance earned him a gold medal and helped the USSR secure victory over the rest of the world.
Mikhail Tal would go on to become World Chess Champion from 1960 to 1961, and he later earned the unforgettable nickname “The Magician from Riga” for his incredible creativity and dazzling attacks.
Hope you enjoy the game.
