Описание: Paide is a small town in central Estonia and the capital of Järva County. It holds historical significance and offers a peaceful, small-town atmosphere. The town’s name comes from the Estonian word paas, meaning limestone, which is abundant in the area and was used to build many of its early structures. At the heart of Paide is the 13th-century Paide Castle, originally built by the Livonian Order. Its most prominent feature is the Vallitorn, or Tall Hermann Tower, which now houses the Wittenstein Time Centre. This interactive museum presents Estonian history across eight floors, each representing a different era, from prehistoric times to the modern republic. The town centre is compact and walkable, with a central square surrounded by cafés, shops, and public buildings. Paide also hosts cultural events, including the Opinion Festival (Arvamusfestival), which draws national attention each summer for its open-air discussions and debates. Surrounding Järva County is known for its forests, lakes, and agricultural landscapes. The region offers opportunities for hiking, birdwatching, and exploring manor houses and local museums that reflect Estonia’s rural heritage. Paide is home to just over 8,000 residents & oozes cultural and historical richness, making it a rewarding stop for travellers interested in Estonia’s heartland.
