Consultant Connect is a communications platform designed to connect primary and secondary care services to better support the physical health of patients. South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (FT) was the first UK mental health Trust to adopt the technology to support communication about the physical health of patients accessing acute care services. The intervention was designed to provide short-term, responsive advice and guidance to clinicians to prevent unnecessary referrals or transfers from acute wards to inpatient services.
We interviewed Dr Theo Boardman-Pretty, Specialty Doctor, Lambeth Home Treatment Team, about clinicians' experience using Consultant Connect and what should be considered by other mental health providers thinking about implementing the service.
