In this documentary, we board the Skagerrak, a converted barge that has become the world’s largest cable-laying vessel. Its mission is critical: to restore the power connection between Long Island and Connecticut by laying three massive high-voltage cables across the Long Island Sound.
With a 7,000-ton revolving turntable carrying a continuous 12-mile (19 km) copper snake, the crew faces a logistical nightmare. They must navigate shallow waters, avoid pollution and lobster pots, and deploy the "Capjet" trenching robot to bury the lines safely. But the biggest challenge lies ahead: a small island blocks the ship’s path, forcing the team to float tons of heavy cable over the reef using 700 buoys and small boats in a high-stakes manual operation.
