Today's recipe is a traditional Parsi Style Mori Dhal - it is creamy, hearty, healthy and has a wonderfully earthy, slightly buttery flavor.
My Mum, Mama Vil, has kindly allowed me to share our family recipe that she's handed down to me and now I get to share her deliciously easy recipe with the world!
Mori Dhal has great significance in our culture as it is very often served for lucky and auspicious occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, first day at work etc. We believe serving this dish brings blessings and luck to the person/s we are celebrating on that day.
Mori Dhal is traditionally served with steamed basmati rice and either lightly spiced and fried fish or a fish patia which is essentially fish cooked in a tomato, onion, coriander/cilantro gravy - both ways are delicious!
