WWII Chronicles 61
In August 1942 Allied forces launched a test raid on Dieppe — over 6,000 troops, mostly Canadian, stormed the beaches. Tanks bogged down, air cover was thin, and German defenses waited. Within hours the raid collapsed: more than half were killed, wounded, or captured. It was a disaster, but from the blood of Dieppe came hard lessons that helped make D-Day possible two years later.
