In March 2011, the small town Namie was hit by a tsunami and found itself inside the 10km
radiation zone when a nuclear power station exploded in the neighboring town of Okuma.
Namie has produced 20’000 nuclear refugees - the biggest number among all towns in
the evacuation zone - who are now scattered across the country.

Aunt Kuniko is a bakery owner, multiple businesswoman, and a matriarch of a four-generation
family. Fiercely independent, she cannot conceive of a future being dependent on
compensation money. She wants, together with her husband, to restart their lumber business
and to get involved in the reconstruction of the disaster-hit areas.
