When continuously driving downhill with a Toyota Hybrid vehicle an MG2 (Motor Generator 2) charges the hybrid HV battery fast and when the battery is fully charged the MG2 starts dumping most of the produced energy to the MG1 which starts to spin the engine. This process automatically starts when the HV battery is being fully charged and driving in "D" mode but it's much more intense in "B" mode (B - engine braking mode). Almost all braking is made this way in B mode - this way the physical brakes are almost not used at all (they engage if you press the brake pedal intensely) and this saves the discs & brake pads from overheating and make's them last much longer.
