The Kidney Beans inside our body and their anterior relations!
✅ Overview
The Kidneys are two structures that are bean-shaped and found located in the posterior abdomen. These organs are known for their function to filter and excrete waste products from the blood. Also- they are the key source of water and electrolyte balance in our body.
Urine? Well simply, the kidney excretes metabolic waste and excess electrolytes in the form of urine. Urine travels from the kidneys to the bladder - through our ureters, into our urethra, and officially out the penis or female perineum.
✅ Anatomically Speaking
Found on both sides of the spine and behind the peritoneum, and it also can be said that kidneys lie retroperitoneally. The right kidney is actually sitting a little lower because of the big heavy liver above it. Adrenal glands actually sit atop the kidneys but that’s for another lesson.
✅ Clinical Relationships
The kidneys are closely related to the other abdominal structures in our body, and its clinically important for us to know these relations. We can speak of either the right or left kidney and its relations and also the anterior or posterior aspect of the kidney, which also changes its relations.
