China has held its largest-ever anti-terrorism drill for the civil aviation industry in southwestern Chongqing Municipality on Saturday.
Directed by an emergency response command, the drill started with an anti-hijacking exercise, in which three simulated terrorists hijacked a passenger plane and forced the crew to land at the Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport.
The Chongqing and Sichuan armed police corps then sent soldiers to the airport in emergency.
An armed police unit earlier stationed at the airport swiftly controlled the high grounds of the parking apron, while the airport police enforced control at major entrances and exits.
After the landing of the plane, the simulated terrorists threatened to detonate an explosive unless their demand for money was met.
The drill command instructed the troops to assault the suspects and rescue the passengers.
The scout team entered the cargo compartment of the plane from its tail and then used their equipment to observe and report the situation inside the aircraft, while the sniper team on an elevated work platform shot "dead" a simulated suspect at the front door.
Then three other teams stormed the hijacked plane from three accesses, shooting "dead" a second suspect and arresting the third.
After evacuating the passengers from the plane, the bomb disposal team removed the suspected "explosive" from the plane and destroyed it at a safe location.
The airport security-check personnel then verified the identities of all the passengers.
The drill was jointly held by the Civil Aviation Administration of China and major security departments including the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Public Security
More than 400 people took part in the drill, which involved the aviation department and various related units, as well as various troops using multi-type equipment, according to Li Jian, deputy head of the Civil Aviation Administration of China.
The scale of the anti-terrorism drill is unprecedented in the civil aviation industry, according to Li.
In 2015, Chinese airliners completed 3.62 million safe flights in a total of 8.46 million hours, up 7.4 percent and 10.8 percent year on year, respectively. More on: http://www.cctvplus.com/news/20160820...
