Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness has made it clear—Jamaica welcomes its returning citizens, whether they are voluntary returnees or deportees from the United States. But if they plan to bring crime back with them? His message is even clearer: “You will meet a judge… or your maker.”

Holness is standing firm against any potential rise in crime linked to returning deportees. The Prime Minister emphasized that Jamaica has fought hard to bring crime numbers down, and his government has no intention of allowing that progress to be reversed.

His warning? Anyone thinking of coming back to Jamaica with criminal intentions will not be allowed to destroy the lives of law-abiding citizens.
Meanwhile, in the United States, President Donald Trump is pushing forward with his campaign promise—the largest deportation operation in U.S. history.

While it remains unclear exactly how many Jamaicans will be affected, estimates suggest that around 99,000 undocumented Jamaicans currently live in the U.S.

However, Jamaica’s Ambassador to Washington, Audrey Marks, and Foreign Minister Kamina Johnson Smith have sought to calm fears. Both officials have reassured the public—there is no large-scale deportation of Jamaicans happening at this time.

So, what does this mean for Jamaica? A future where returning Jamaicans can build a life—but where crime has no place. “You will be able to make a living in Jamaica,” the prime minister said.
