On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the inspiring stories of two women from Jaipur have come to light, showing how courage and determination can change lives and inspire society.

One of them is Hemlata Bhardwaj, who has been driving an auto-rickshaw in Jaipur for the past 14–15 years. Hemlata says that after her marriage she was thrown out of her in-laws’ house because of dowry demands. With a one-and-a-half-year-old child in her arms, she struggled to survive and eventually decided to drive an auto-rickshaw to earn a living. Today, that very auto has become her identity, and she often takes foreign tourists from the railway station on city tours.

The second woman is Surekha Goyal, who works as a Station Controller and Train Operator in the Jaipur Metro. Since the metro began operations in 2015, she has been consistently driving metro trains and managing operations.

Although their journeys are different, both women send the same message — with courage and self-confidence, women can overcome every challenge and create their own identity.
