About the Producers

This podcast was produced by the Onsi Sawiris School of Business' Access to Knowledge for Development Center and its flagship initiative, the MENA Observatory on Responsible AI, at the American University in Cairo. Established in 2010, A2K4D is a leading organization in the Arab region on issues related to knowledge, digital technologies, data governance, and development, aiming to ensure that the benefits of technology are accessible, inclusive, and equitable.

In 2023, A2K4D launched the MENA Observatory on Responsible AI to serve as an interdisciplinary platform connecting policy-oriented researchers and innovators, aiming to foster collaboration and build capacity for responsible data and AI practices. By providing research, policy briefs, blogs, and reports, the MENA Observatory aims to become a dynamic, inclusive, and locally-driven platform on responsible AI in MENA, catalyzing change.

About Aliah Yacoub

Aliah is an expert researcher on human minds and its artificial counterpart. She specializes in phenomenology, philosophy of the mind and artificial intelligence. She is also the Head of TechQualia, Egypt's first interdisciplinary platform about AI, Synapse Analytics' publication. Aliah is currently a PhD candidate at Utrecht University and a researcher at ESDIT consortium (Ethics of Socially Disruptive Technologies).

She is also passionate about environmental awareness and co-authored the Ministry of Environment's CB3 Guide to Climate Change, Biodiversity, and Desertification.
