Today I am trying to make clear the meanings of these words to the farmers as well as the beginners in cultivation of Black Pepper.
Top Shoot is the part of vines grew straight at the top of the plant bearing fruits and of 4-5 years old. We Select such Strong vines with thick roots in the nodes for Saplings.
Njarvallies are those vines hanging from the top of the plant without any branch. Never use these vines for propagating new Saplings.
Chenthala is the new growth formed naturally at the bottom of the plants at an age of 4-5 years. These are the most available and popular vines , traditionally used to propagate new Sapplings.
Also we can graft the Top Shoot to the Piper Colubrinum.

ഞാറുവാലികൾ ഉപയോഗിച്ച് നാഗപ്പതി രീതിയിൽ പുതുചെടികൾ ഉണ്ടാക്കിയാൽ അവ വളരെ വേഗം വളർന്നു കയറി മുകളിലേക്കു പോകും പക്ഷേ വശങ്ങളിലേക്ക് പുതിയ തലപ്പുകൾ ഉണ്ടാകത്തില്ല. അഥവാ പുതിയ ബ്രാഞ്ചുകൾ ഉണ്ടായാലും തിരി പിടിക്കില്ല.
അതുകൊണ്ടു തന്നെ എത്ര നാൾ കഴിഞ്ഞാലും ചെടിയിൽ പൂക്കൾ ഉണ്ടാകാറില്ല.
ചെടിയുടെ ചുവട്ടിൽ നിന്നും പുതുതായി മുളച്ചു വന്നു തറയിലൂടെ പടർന്നു കിട
ക്കുന്ന വള്ളികളാണ് ചെന്തലകൾ. പരമ്പരാഗതമായി ചെന്തലകൾ മുറിച്ചെടുത്താണ് പുതിയ കുരു മുളക് തൈകൾ ഉൽപ്പാദിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്. കൊളുബ്രീനത്തിൽ ഗ്രാഫ്റ്റ് ചെയ്തും ഈ രണ്ടു മാർഗ്ഗങ്ങളിലൂടെ പുതിയ കേറുതലകൾ ഉണ്ടാക്കാം.
