Today on the cutting board is a product from Austin, Siete's "Traditional" Hot Sauce. A quick look at the ingredients reveals this is anything but traditional - golden beets, puya peppers, apple cider vinegar, orange peel, etc. This is a bit of an oddball!
The flavor is distinct and the beets come through a lot more than one would expect, delivering an earthy note that is hard to come by in the hot sauce world. The orange peel also adds a hint of bitterness, which places this sauce all by itself in the flavor spectrum.
It's a very particular taste and won't be for everyone. If you're averse to beets or don't like earthy or bitter notes in your sauce, you might want to give this one a miss. If you're looking for something completely different, this is a good one to check out as it doesn't share a flavor profile with any sauce I can think of.
