Dattatreya – The Trimurti in One Form

Lord Dattatreya is the only deity in Sanatan Dharma who embodies the Trimurti — Brahma (creation), Vishnu (preservation), and Shiva (destruction) — in a single form. Though unborn and eternal, he appears in the world as a wandering ascetic, an avadhuta, free from worldly attachments and full of inner realization.

His teachings are deeply rooted in Advaita (non-duality) — that there is no difference between the soul and the Supreme. In the Avadhuta Gita, attributed to him, Dattatreya speaks as the liberated Self, beyond body and identity, one with all existence. In the Tripura Rahasya, he is portrayed as the guru who reveals the secret of the Supreme Goddess and the nature of reality.

He walked the earth like a madman to some, but as a Jagatguru (world-teacher) to true seekers. He took 24 gurus from nature — like fire, wind, sky, elephant, prostitute, and snake — learning from each without judgment. His life is a reminder that truth is everywhere when one is ready to see.
