Prof. Dr. Bradley Nelson and Prof. Dr. Salvador Pané introduce the ANGIE project, a significant advancement in targeted drug delivery.
The common method of drug administration today is systemic; drugs are injected into the bloodstream, where they disperse throughout the entire body. This approach can be inefficient as drugs often reach areas where they are not needed. The ANGIE project proposes a more targeted solution.
In the project, microcapsules are navigated magnetically within the vasculature to a specific target site. Upon reaching the target site, the capsules dissolve, releasing the therapeutic directly where needed.
This project received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under grant agreement 952152.
