Back in June I cut down a vine maple tree in my back yard. I left the branches out to season for about three months, then I picked a good branch to make a quick maplewood bow.
This bow only took me about three minutes to make. I cut it with a hand saw, then I used a round file to file the notches in the ends of the stick for the bowstring.
For the bowstring, I used an abrasion resistant nylon cord that I bought at Bi-Mart for about three dollars. I can make several bow stings out of the cord.
I tied a loop in each end of the bow string and then slipped them over the ends of the stick into the notches.
I used duct tape for the fletching on the arrows. This took about three minutes for each arrow. I used a triangle shaped file to file down one end of the arrow for the nock.
The arrows were made from the bush behind me in the video. It is obviously overgrown, but I hate to trim it because it grows some pretty good arrows. The arrows are very light and fairly straight. I wish I knew what kind of bush it is, but I am not sure.
Hope you enjoyed the video. We enjoyed making it. My son filmed it for me. Thanks son.
