Sa gitna ng umiigting na usapin sa karagatan at mga puna hinggil sa karapatan ng Pilipinas sa West Philippine Sea, iginiit ng pamunuan ng Armed Forces of the Philippines na hindi abstract o teoretikal ang usapin sa maritime domain.
Para sa AFP, malinaw ang mandato: bantayan at ipagtanggol ang soberanya at mga karapatan ng bansa.
Kaugnay nito, nakatakdang i-commission ang dalawang bagong barko ng Philippine Navy na ide-deploy sa exclusive economic zone ng Pilipinas bilang bahagi ng patuloy na modernisasyon ng hukbong-dagat.
