Key numbers at a glance

Brokerage: 0.1% of trade value, maximum $10 per order, plus 18% GST
Market hours (IST): 7:00 PM to 1:30 AM until 31 October; 8:00 PM to 2:30 AM from 1 November
Long-term capital gains (held over 24 months): 12.5%
Short-term capital gains: taxed at your income slab rate
Dividends: 25% withheld in the US, which you can claim as a foreign tax credit in India
