This hymn with three common titles -- My Saviour's Love, How Marvellous, and I Stand Amazed -- was written in about 1905 by the prolific American hymnist, Charles Hutchinson Gabriel. In fact, he wrote so many hymns that publishers often listed the composer by his initials or with a pseudonym.
This hymn echoes Charles Wesley's "And Can It Be," with its cry of "Amazing love! How can it be?" The central theme is awe and wonder experienced by the believer when contemplating the sacrificial, unconditional love of Christ.
