If you're involved in an accident in Milwaukee County or the City of Milwaukee, there are certain things you need to do to preserve evidence for your case. So in every case, we try to try to get similar types of evidence, but it may vary from city to city. So for instance, the first thing you want to do if you're in an accident is get the other drivers name, license plate, and insurance information, or as many other details as you can get. Same thing, if there are witnesses, a lot of times witnesses will stop, but then they're just going to check and make sure you're okay, make sure the police are called and they're gonna leave. But witness information is one of the most important things you can get to preserve your case. Because ultimately, if you go to court, it's going to be your word against the other driver. But if there's an independent witness, that witnesses statement is going to have a lot more credibility with the jury. So the next thing is to try to take photos of your vehicle and the other person's vehicle, and also the scene. A lot of times, the traffic lights or the traffic signs, and even the roadway can change over time. And so it's important to try to document the scene of the crash. If you're in the city of Milwaukee, what we also try to do is make a request for traffic camera footage. Now, this is very important for you to call a lawyer right away because they typically only hold those footage for 72 hours. Now if the accident happens on the freeway, sometimes the DLT will have traffic cameras. And again, they only hold those for a limited time. So it's really important that you contact an attorney or you can contact the DLT right away and just make sure that they do have that footage. And you can also go to their website and we'll leave a link below where you can check to see if there are traffic cameras in that area. So the final thing is you want to make sure that you call the police and make sure that when the police arrive that you are honest with them and tell them what happened. But make sure you get the police officers information phone number, and also the police report number. A lot of times, especially after COVID, there's a backup and it takes a long time to get the police records through open records requests.
