GINA meteorologist Eric Stevens discusses a new generation of weather satellites that has been developed over several years and is now being launched into space. These satellites give meteorologists more information than ever before, and meteorologists use this imagery to improve forecasts and warnings, all with the aim of protecting the lives and property of all Alaskans.
Eric Stevens was born and raised in North Dakota and moved to Alaska for the nicer winters. Eric worked for the National Weather Service as a meteorologist in Nome, Anchorage, and Fairbanks for 18 years. Since 2012 Eric has worked at the Geographic Information Network of Alaska (GINA) on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus to facilitate the integration of GINA’s satellite imagery into the forecast process at NWS offices across Alaska.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
