Growing older gracefully

Описание: I recently had an interesting conversation with my mother, Dr. Margaret E. Benson-Idahosa, about growing old gracefully. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣It all started when I asked her how she was feeling about turning a year old. ⁣⁣⁣Her laugh threw her head back in pure joy, as she said to me, “well, it’s here.” ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣And she’s right. There is absolutely no choice in whether or not we are fortunate enough to grow older. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣It’s here. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣The real choice is in 𝘩𝘰𝘸 we grow older. It is the subtle, but intentional difference between growing old gracefully and simply growing old. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣That distinction is reflected in the fullness of the 𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘦 that anchors our decisions. It is reflected in the fullness of 𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘦 that shapes our legacy, i.e., that beautiful fragrance that we leave in others. It is in the fullness of 𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘦 that frees itself from the shackles of unforgiveness and vulnerably breathes life into brokenness. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣It is that buoyant grace that pursues a life characterised by peace; a life that seeks to uplift and anchor others; a life that unburdens itself of superficiality and leans in to posterity. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣May we all fearlessly pursue that fullness of grace that lives each day as our last; that loves recklessly and seeks to embrace the last and least in much the same way we too have been beloved. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣Those are my thoughts of the day.
