Mr. Weekes focused on the differences between the three areas of expertise (indoor air quality (IAQ); industrial hygiene (IH); and indoor environmental quality (IEQ). He also discussed the relationship of these scientific areas with ventilation in buildings.
These 4 case studies provided specific examples of these areas of expertise that will illustrate what an investigator looks for while conducting a building inspection and testing:
1) Industrial hygiene of a sewage treatment plant which the workers complained about symptoms.
2) IAQ on a large governmental building complex with periodic IAQ complaints.
3) Chemical odour complaints of sun roof in office building.
4) College closed in March due to COVID-19.
The investigative methods and risk assessment tools to be utilised when evaluating a building for the risk of COVID-19 were discussed. An innovative approach was adopted to building inspections to assess the potential for infectious transmission of viruses, including COVID-19.
