This work was commissioned by cellist Thomas Mesa for the Sphinx Medal of Excellence ceremony and written in honor of Justice Sonia Sotomayor. The music attempts to capture her humanity: the determination, the generosity of spirit, thoughtfulness and dedication that characterize Justice Sotomayor both on and off the bench. The premiere was given by Tommy Mesa and Michelle Cann at the Supreme Court of the United States on March 1st, 2023.
