On January 10, 2026, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces, in coordination with partner forces, executed a second wave of large-scale strikes against multiple ISIS targets across Syria.
Operation Overview
Mission Name: Operation Hawkeye Strike, launched by the Trump administration in response to a December 13, 2025, ISIS ambush in Palmyra that killed two U.S. soldiers (Sgt. Edgar Brian Torres-Tovar and Sgt. William Nathaniel Howard) and one American civilian interpreter (Ayad Mansoor Sakat).
Scale of Strike: More than 20 aircraft fired over 90 precision munitions at at least 35 targets throughout the country.
Participating Assets: The operation featured U.S. F-15E Strike Eagles, A-10 Thunderbolt IIs, AC-130J gunships, and MQ-9 Reaper drones, alongside Jordanian F-16s.
Timing: The strikes began at approximately 12:30 p.m. ET (1730 GMT) on Saturday, January 10.
Strategic Objectives
CENTCOM stated that the strikes were designed to degrade ISIS's remaining capabilities in Syria and prevent future attacks against U.S. and partner forces. Following the strikes, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth reaffirmed the administration's stance, stating, "if you harm our warfighters, we will find you and kill you anywhere in the world".
Context in 2026
These actions follow the December 2024 overthrow of the Assad regime, after which Washington has increasingly coordinated with the new central government in Damascus to combat ISIS remnants. Syria recently joined the global coalition against the terror group.
Event Summary: Operation Hawkeye Strike (Jan 10 Update)
Date: January 10, 2026 (approx. 12:30 PM ET).
Operation: Operation Hawkeye Strike (Ongoing retaliation campaign).
