The Siege of Tyre (332 BC) was one of the most remarkable military operations of Alexander the Great’s campaign against the Persian Empire. The city of Tyre was located on an island and protected by massive walls rising directly from the sea, making it nearly impossible to attack. Alexander ordered the construction of a massive causeway from the mainland to the island, allowing his army and siege engines to approach the walls.
After months of intense fighting by land and sea, Macedonian forces finally breached the defenses and captured the city. The fall of Tyre secured Alexander’s control over the eastern Mediterranean and opened the path for his march toward Egypt.
