This video brings our story up to date with monitoring and green finance, building on our earlier compilation covering videos 1-3.
Flood risk is changing - but so is how we manage it. In this short compilation, we show how farmers, landowners, scientists, and policymakers are working together to build a more flood-resilient North Yorkshire.
What’s inside:
• Farmers and land managers sharing real-world insights
• How modelling informs practical NFM solutions
• Partnerships turning ideas into action on the ground
• Field-based monitoring and emerging green finance approaches
• Our vision for a scalable, locally rooted strategy and the York rivers trail
Whether you’re a farmer, policymaker, community member or investor, see how local knowledge, innovation, and collaboration are ow data is shaping decisions for resilient landscapes.

TRANSCRIPT:
Ousewem’s story so far: turning data into action for flood resilience
● Flood risk is changing… but so is how we manage it.
● Ousewem is bringing together land managers, scientists, and policymakers to shape the future of flood resilience.
● For land managers, flood risk is just one of many challenges.
● We spoke to farmers across North Yorkshire to understand what’s holding back natural flood management (NFM).
● The message was clear…
● NFM has potential - but it needs to be practical, cost-effective, and backed by real results.
● That’s why we started with the data.
● Hydrological and hydraulic models allow us to predict where NFM measures will have the most impact.
● By testing interventions before they happen, modelling can help to achieve smarter, more effective solutions.
● But data alone isn’t enough. To turn these insights into action, we need strong partnerships.
● Ousewem is working with farmers, local authorities, and national organisations, including the Environment Agency… we’re bringing real-world solutions to life.
● Monitoring provides vital evidence on interventions .
● Consistent, robust data feeds into our models, supporting smarter decisions for land, water, and communities.
● Public funding alone cannot meet future challenges.
● Ousewem is exploring ways to unlock investment in NFM projects.
● Farmers and landowners are central - helping projects become investor-ready.
● We are working towards a scalable, locally rooted model that can generate long-term benefits for people and nature.
● The journey continues.
● From monitoring to finance models, Ousewem lays foundations for long-term flood resilience.
● Ousewem and its partners are building a strategy – turning today’s learning into tomorrow’s delivery.
● And through the York rivers trail, we will bring these stories to life.
