Описание:
This transfer presents a mid-century performance of Hector Berlioz's (1803–1869) programme symphony by the Bamberger Symphoniker under Jonel Perlea.
The work follows the psychological visions of a young artist. A recurring idée fixe represents the Beloved, reappearing in each movement in altered character as the narrative darkens from longing to hallucination and grotesque ritual.
The side change of the original LP occurs within the third movement. In this presentation the musical flow is continuous.
Narrative from the rear of the record sleeve, accompanying and giving context to each movement, is displayed on-screen for the viewer.
Programme
00:00 – I. Rêveries, Passions (Dreams, Passions)
The artist’s emotional turbulence, elation, jealousy and religious consolation. The idée fixe first takes full form.
14:34 – II. Un bal (A ball)
A brilliant festivity. Amid the whirl of the dance he sees the Beloved again.
20:53 – III. Scène aux champs (Scene in the Meadows)
Pastoral calm, distant shepherd calls, hope clouded by anxiety. Thunder approaches, isolation and silence.
39:43 – IV. Marche au supplice (March to the scaffold)
He dreams he has murdered the Beloved and is led to execution. The idée fixe returns for a final moment before the fatal stroke.
44:28 – V. Songe d’une nuit du sabbat (Dream of a witches' sabbath)
A macabre gathering. The Beloved theme is transformed into parody, funeral bells sound, and the Dies Irae joins the infernal round dance.
