Hi, everyone, Jesse here with etrailer. Today we'll be taking a look at and I'll show you how to install the etrailer Custom-Fit Trailer Hitch Receiver on our 2025 Toyota Grand Highlander. The Grand Highlander is a quite spacious vehicle on the inside, but you may have all three rows of seats filled with people, or you have some stuff that you wanna store outside the vehicle, and adding a hitch allows you to do that. Once you have this hitch installed, you can throw in accessories such as a cargo carrier or a bike rack, or you can even do some towing with it. Just remember, if you plan on doing any kind of towing with your vehicle, you will need to add on trailer wiring to ensure that you're safe and legal out there on the road. Here's a closer look at our hitch installed on our neighbor's vehicle.

You'll see we have a nice matte black paint finish that looks really good on the back of our neighbor's Grand Highlander, and that receiver opening here is a two-inch by two-inch receiver opening that's gonna be standard for most of your accessories. Behind that, we have another standard 5/8-inch pin hole. The pin and clip are not included with the hitch, however, we have many options available here at etrailer. Also, any accessory that you add on will most likely come with one included. Then for your towing, we have a standard wire-type safety cable loop.

Very easy to access with whatever style safety cable you have, for example, an S-style, or even a large clevis like this. We'll take some quick measurements starting with our ground clearance. From the ground to the top of the inside of the collar here is right at about 14 1/2 inches. Then from the center of our pinhole to the edge of the bumper is at about 4 1/2 inches. That's a number you wanna keep in mind for any folding accessories that you add on to ensure they don't make contact with the vehicle.

As for the weight capacities with this hitch, we have a gross trailer weight of 5,000 pounds. That's the amount of weight that you can pull behind the vehicle. Then we have a maximum tongue weight of 500 pounds. That tongue weight is the amount of weight pushing down on the hitch. Always be sure to double-check your owner's manual, compare all those numbers and go off the lowest-rated component to ensure that you're safe out there on the road.

All in all, if you're looking to add a hitch to your Grand Highlander, I think you will be very happy with the etrailer. I think it's one of the better-looking hitches that you can put on it just because of the paint finish matching our rear bumper here. As far as the installation, this is one of these simpler hitches to install. It's just a matter of lifting the weight of the hitch up and getting some bolts tightened down. If you are looking to see how it gets installed, follow along and I'll walk you through the process. We'll begin our installation by locating our mounting holes on both sides of the vehicle. On the outside of the frame rail, there's gonna be two weld nuts. They're actually hidden behind these plastic caps here, so we'll just take a flathead screwdriver, pop the one out, and then pop the back one out. And then what I do is if your car's a little older and there's some dirt built up, you might wanna take a wire brush and clean up the threads. I'll just take the hardware and thread it in and out a few times, make sure it's nice and smooth. That way we're not fighting those threads when the hitch is up above our head. Since we have the hardware here, we'll talk about it. Each of those holes will get a bolt and a conical-tooth washer. Make sure those teeth are facing towards the hitch. I'd recommend to grab an extra set of hands. I have my friend Aiden here to help me out. We're just gonna kinda work it up above the exhaust, and then get everything lined up. Once you have your holes lined up on the side here, take one set of hardware and get those threaded on on both sides, and that's gonna hol
