Act I of the opera "La Mare dels Peixos" (The Mother of Fishes) with Soundcool system. The complete opera was premiered at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia of Valencia (Spain) on Dec. 16, 2016 with music by Jorge Sastre, director of Soundcool project, and Roger Dannenberg, cocreator of Audacity, and lyrics written by Aurora Clari and Carlos Iborra subtitled in English, Spanish and Valencian. The opera was performed by professional singers and orchestra, and 60 students. All Soundcool system performance was directed by Dr. Adolf Murillo.
The first act was composed by Jorge Sastre and featured two characters Jaume (baritone) and his wife Jordina (mezzosoprano), a choir of 30 children from the Schools of Music CIM Benimaclet and Canet d'en Berenguer from the Federation of Music Societies from the Valencian Community (fsmcv.org), 15 students from the Primary School CEIP 9 d'Octubre (Alcàsser, Valencia) performing vocal effects, and 15 students from the Secondary School IES Arabista Ribera (Carcaixent, Valencia) producing all the opera sound effects with Soundcool using smartphones and tablets connected through wifi to a computer running Soundcool. The score provided suggestions to the students of the sounds to be created with Soundcool, and they worked at class on producing a misterious voice for the Mother of Fishes with Soundcool and others. The first act contains a traditional theme from Dènia (Valencia, Spain), the village were the tale starts: "De Dènia a la Xara" (originally "De Pedreguer a la Xara"). The first time it appears as it is originally at 5'59'', and then it is transformed.
The premiere was financed by the Foundation Daniel & Nina Carasso, The Conselleria de Educació, Investigació, Cultura i Sport, CulturArts, the Ajuntament de València, the Universitat Politècnica de València, etc. (see the complete logos at the end). All the students were participants of the Erasmus+ Project "Technology for learning and creativity: weaving European networks through collaborative music creation".
