Route 462 was a shuttle route that connected the Santa Ana Civic Center with the Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center, and mainly operated in the mornings and afternoons as they connected with Metrolink and Amtrak trains. Due to the upcoming OC Streetcar project, Route 462 will be discontinued and will be replaced with a new shuttle route 862 which will still connect to the Civic Center, but will operated on Civic Center Dr instead of Santa Ana Blvd since construction will be taking place on the latter street. This new route will also run all day, everyday from 5 am to midnight on weekdays and 6 am to midnight on weekends. Frequencies will be 10-15 minutes on weekdays and 20 minutes on weekends. In addition, 462 was run by First Transit Irvine base, but the new route will be an in-house route run by Santa Ana base.
In this video, I decided to record the last ever trip of this route and see what it was like to be one of the last passengers of this route. The bus driver was a friendly one, and as we went through the Civic Center, no one else boarded the bus, thus making me the last ever passenger of this route. When I got back to SARTC, the headsign went from saying 462 to Not in Service, signaling the end of an era and the beginning of a new one. In addition, I also recorded the ride non-stop so you can truly see how long the ride was, which was just over 20 minutes. The new route 862 began operation today, October 12, 2019. I hope you guys enjoy this last ride with me! Also, I will be recording the new route 862 on Monday so look out for that video soon, along with some of the other improved routes!
