Gretton & Wenlock – Wimborne Railex 2025

Описание: Gretton & Wenlock by Colehill Locomotives & Narrow Gauge Enthusiasts Railway Society (the CLANGERS). An O-16.5 Gauge layout at the Wimborne Railex 23 March 2025



This wonderful layout depicts Gretton station and its environs towards the end of this railway’s existence – from the end of World War II until the sad closure of the line in September, 1951. Here Gretton Station & Canal, along with the associated warehouses, is beautifully modelled on this imaginary 2′ 3″ narrow gauge railway. The railway initially opened in 1892, like many, for freight traffic only, this being mostly coal and slate. Four tram engines formed the initial power, along with some 30 wagons. When new coaching stock was delivered in 1899, a passenger service was introduced. At this time the wagon and loco fleet were both expanded. The railway connected with the Great Western Railway at both ends of the line where there are exchange sidings. The main offices. workshops, engine and carriage sheds were situated in Church Stretton alongside the Great Western Railway station. The Shropshire Union Canal had a small branch alongside the railway and traffic to the warehouses and timber merchants was a welcome source of revenue for the Gretton and Wenlock.
