At ECR 2025, Rowland Illing gave a forward-thinking plenary lecture ‘Healthy People, Healthy Planet: the Power of the Cloud in Radiology’.
In his lecture, Rowland looked at how cloud technology in radiology plays a significant role in promoting both healthy individuals and a healthy planet by enabling efficient storage, sharing, and analysis of imaging data. He also discussed how it allows for better collaboration among healthcare professionals and minimises the carbon footprint associated with traditional imaging practices.
Rowland Illing is Chief Medical Officer and Director of Global Healthcare and Non-Profits for Amazon Web Services (AWS).
He is responsible for strategy and engagement across healthcare and non-profit customers globally, including providers, payors, and health technology companies. He is particularly focused on technologies like artificial intelligence, and how these can drive innovation in health equity and sustainability, as well as allow healthcare organisations to better harness their data for efficiency and patient benefit.
