Tarkine Coast / North West Tasmania -

Tarkine -
A private transfer into the start of the walk at Arthur River - 6 days walking to the mouth of Pieman river, a small boast pick up and a cruise up the river to Corinna on board the Arcadia 2.
Wild west coast of Tasmania This dramatic coastline, seen by few people, is far more rugged and exposed than Tasmania’s eastern or northwestern coastline. Marked by vast sand dune systems, interspersed by rocky shores and coves, this coastline is regularly pounded by the Roaring 40’s bringing waves up to 18 metres. The nearest landmass due west of Pieman Heads is Argentina, 18,000 km away.
The Tarkine coastline is not only breathtaking, but the expansive ocean beaches and huge surf create a powerful backdrop for the Tarkine Coast Trail. It is a place of huge historical significance in Australia, with an Aboriginal history dating back thousands of years. Evidence of the Tarkine people, after whom the Tarkine is named, still remain dotted all over the coastline with some of the largest middens ever found in Australia along our expedition.
The Tarkine Coast Trail is completed in full respect and acknowledgment of the Aboriginal people of Tasmania. All care is taken to ensure their relics and cultural histories are respected and maintained in the way that they wish.
