In this video I talk about why I decided not to make traditional plans or goals for my photography in 2026.
Last year I focused on concrete outcomes: improving my darkroom printing, making a photobook, selling prints, and increasing visibility. I succeeded in many of those things. But while planning the next year, I realized that pursuing visibility, sales, or exhibitions would require changing the kind of photographs I make.
That was non-negotiable.
My photographs are not modern, trendy, narrative, or marketable.
They have no agenda, no message, and no story to tell.
They exist as concrete photographic artefacts, not as communication.
So instead of business plans or promotion strategies, I decided that 2026 will be about going further into photography itself:
subjects are secondary
aesthetics and atmosphere are primary
no stories, no conclusions, no answers
This direction is often described as photographic formalism, where photography serves visual perception rather than explanation.
In the video I briefly reference photographers whose work resonates with this approach, including Ray K. Metzker and Lewis Baltz, and compare some of my own photographs alongside theirs to illustrate the path I’m on.
This is not a tutorial.
Not a career strategy.
Not a marketing plan.
