The West Bengal Assembly Election 2026 will be held in two phases in April. Polling for the first phase is scheduled for April 23, while the second phase will take place on April 29. The counting of votes will be held on May 4, when the results will be announced.

Amid preparations for the polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday released its first list of 144 candidates for the upcoming election. In a major contest, the party has fielded Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency.
