Today we’re checking all the latest from Electronic Audio Experiments, The Bard. The Bard is a tribute to one of their favorite amps of yesteryear, the Music Man HD130. The HD130 was a hybrid design that featured a Solid State Preamp & Tube Power Amp, and delivered pristine clean tones and a unique overdrive that works well for both guitars and bass.

The Bard is built using op amps in place of the tubes and can deliver the vintage American style clean tones, and when pushed deliver a very glassy, angular drive that can cut through any mix. The control layout is straightforward, the Level and Drive work as expected, the drive control is highly influenced by the tone stack, and will distort differently depending on how those controls are set. The Low and High controls are a passive tone stack, and as you push the controls higher those given frequencies will distort more.

There’s also a Normal/Bright switch that affects the treble contour of the drive, this becomes less noticeable as the drive is increased, but is excellent at getting those glassy pushed tones.
