The Lamu area has effectively halted transmission of lymphatic filariasis, a debilitating disease that causes irreversible swelling of the legs and in men painful swelling of the scrotum. For some men the scrotum can grow to the size and weight of a bowling ball. Now, the effort has shifted from providing preventative treatment to finding and giving care to those still living with the life long debilitating effects of the disease.
