In July 2026, England was hit by a severe "Fire Wave," sparking multiple blazes across the country. This raw footage captures the gruelling, overnight efforts of dedicated shooting estate staff and experienced gamekeepers as they deploy specialist equipment to extinguish the right flank of the Crowden/Arnfield wildfire.
For nearly three weeks, deep peat ignitions kept this fire rumbling, posing a massive threat to neighbouring moorland. There was a critical danger that this blaze could merge with the Dovestone wildfire, a disaster that would have engulfed a huge expanse of vulnerable moorland habitat. Thanks to the relentless overnight efforts of the estate teams, the flank was successfully secured just as dawn broke.
⚠️ The 30/30/30 Risk Factor:
Experts, including Claire Belcher and FireInSight, predicted this widespread disaster based on the 30/30/30 crossover:
30°C Temperatures
30mph Winds
30% Humidity
These conditions create the perfect storm for a wildfire disaster. While the National Gamekeepers' Organisation (NGO) wildfire risk index accurately placed all moorland areas at 'extreme risk,' the official government fire prediction tool alarmingly missed these critical warning signs.
A massive thank you to all the estate staff heading back up to the fire site today. When official systems fall short, it is the dedication of our moorland communities that protects these precious, vulnerable landscapes.
